  • The baby's own immune system is strengthening; supported by antibodies received from mom.
  • Brain folds (sulci and gyri) are beginning to form; the brain's surface area is expanding.
  • Surfactant production in the lungs is increasing; each day the capacity to breathe in the outside world gets stronger.
  • In boys, the testes are beginning to descend from the abdominal cavity into the scrotum.

This Week's Tips for Mom

  • A great week to read books or watch videos about breastfeeding and newborn care.
  • You may experience restless leg syndrome; having your iron and magnesium levels checked is a good idea.
  • Pressure in the pelvic area is normal; bladder capacity may decrease as the baby grows.
  • You can start preparing a packing list for your hospital bag.
  • It would be wonderful for you and your partner to discuss your birth plan and preferences; it's important for your partner to prepare for the process too.
Tip of the day: Prenatal pilates or yoga can significantly relieve back pain caused by your changing posture. These exercises also strengthen pelvic floor muscles, supporting your preparation for delivery.
