You're successfully completing the first trimester!
What's Happening With Your Baby This Week?
- The kidneys have started producing urine; the amniotic fluid is constantly being renewed.
- Completely unique fingerprints are forming; they will never match any other person in the world.
- Vocal cords are beginning to form; the foundation for baby's first cry at birth is being prepared.
- Reflexes are very active; fingers close when touched and toes curl.
- Bone marrow is beginning to produce white blood cells; the foundations of the immune system are being laid.
This Week's Tips for Mom
- It's time for the nuchal translucency ultrasound; it's recommended between weeks 11-14.
- It's the perfect time to share the wonderful news with loved ones; the risk of miscarriage drops significantly after this week.
- Your nausea may start to ease; try to make healthy choices as your appetite returns.
- Your belly may start to become slightly visible; it happens at different times for every woman, don't worry.
- You can start taking weekly belly photos or keeping a pregnancy journal to capture memories.
Tip of the day: Getting used to sleeping on your side (left or right, both are fine) can be beneficial; in later weeks, lying on your back can press on the vena cava (main vein). Placing a pillow between your legs can make this position more comfortable.
