Human facial features are now much clearer.
What's Happening With Your Baby This Week?
- The webbing between the fingers has disappeared and fingers are fully separated; the baby can now make a fist.
- Genital organs continue to develop; however, gender distinction on ultrasound is still difficult.
- Hair follicles are beginning to form; the foundations for hair and nail growth are being laid.
- The diaphragm is developing and the baby can make hiccup-like movements.
- The nose and lips are fully formed; the face now has a distinctly human appearance.
This Week's Tips for Mom
- Your energy is starting to return; you can make good use of this boost!
- This is a great time to start prenatal yoga or pilates; be sure to let the instructor know you're pregnant.
- Your hair and nails may grow faster and look shinier thanks to pregnancy hormones.
- It would be good to schedule your combined screening test (between weeks 11-14); this test helps assess the risk of Down syndrome.
- Increasing your daily iron intake can be beneficial; red meat, lentils, and dried apricots are good sources.
Tip of the day: The exhausting organ development process of the first trimester is largely complete. All major organs have formed and will now enter the maturation phase; take a deep breath and congratulate yourself on this achievement!
