Welcome to the second trimester — the "Golden Period"!

What's Happening With Your Baby This Week?

  • The intestines are moving into their place in the abdominal cavity and the digestive system is beginning to mature.
  • Cartilage is rapidly converting to bone; arm and leg bones are hardening especially fast.
  • Vocal cord formation is complete; crying capability at birth is developing.
  • The thyroid gland has started producing hormones; it's contributing to metabolism regulation.
  • Facial muscles are actively working; the baby can frown and pout.

This Week's Tips for Mom

  • Nausea usually decreases around this week; your appetite will come back.
  • You can enjoy your returning energy by increasing protein intake; aim for 75-100 grams of protein daily.
  • Regular dental checkups are important; pregnancy gingivitis (gum inflammation) can be common during this period.
  • A dark line on your belly (linea nigra) may start to appear; this is completely normal and disappears after birth.
  • This is an ideal time to start researching prenatal education classes.
Tip of the day: In the second trimester, you'll feel much more energetic and radiant. The "pregnancy glow" is a real thing — it appears during this period thanks to increased blood volume and hormonal changes.
