Weight and Healthy Eating During Pregnancy
Ideal weight gain, portion control, and balanced meal plan.

Healthy weight gain during pregnancy is important for both your and your baby's health. While excessive weight gain can increase certain risks, insufficient weight gain can negatively affect your baby's development. The key is finding a balanced and nutritious path.
Recommended weight gain varies by body mass index (BMI): Normal weight 11.5-16 kg, underweight 12.5-18 kg, overweight 7-11.5 kg. Most of this gain occurs in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters. Your doctor will provide a recommendation specific to you.
You can try the plate method for portions — half the plate vegetables, quarter protein, quarter whole grains. Eating slowly and listening to satiety signals is also very helpful. You don't need to believe the "eating for two" myth — extra calories are generally not needed in the first trimester, and 300-500 extra calories per day is usually sufficient afterward.
An important note: Dieting or trying to lose weight during pregnancy is not recommended. The goal is controlled and healthy weight gain. Regular doctor visits provide you with the best guidance on this topic.
