Which Nutrients Are Important at Week 12?
Your folic acid, iron, and calcium needs peak this week.

You're in the last week of the first trimester — what a wonderful milestone! During this period, getting the right nutrients for your baby's rapidly developing organs is of great importance for both your and your little one's health.
Folic acid is still important. Although its main protective effect against neural tube defects occurs before pregnancy and in the very first weeks, continuing to take it at your doctor's recommended dose during this period remains valuable for cell division and blood production. Spinach, broccoli, lentils, and citrus fruits are truly excellent sources of folic acid.
Your iron needs also increase during this period. Red meat, chicken, shellfish, and legumes are good iron sources. Consuming them with vitamin C supports absorption — small combinations like spinach salad prepared with orange juice can make a big difference.
Dairy products can be a good choice for calcium. If you have lactose intolerance, green leafy vegetables, almonds, and tahini are wonderful alternatives. And don't forget water — your body is asking a lot of you during this period, take good care of it.
