Kegel Exercises During Pregnancy
Pelvic floor strengthening, birth preparation, and urinary incontinence prevention.

Kegel exercises are simple but truly effective movements that strengthen pelvic floor muscles. These muscles support the uterus, bladder, and intestines. During pregnancy, increased weight and hormonal relaxation can weaken the pelvic floor — Kegel exercises can really help you with this.
To find the right muscle: Squeeze your muscles as if trying to stop urine flow — those are your pelvic floor muscles. You can try this once just to identify the muscles; regularly doing it while urinating is not recommended. Being careful not to squeeze abdomen, buttock, or thigh muscles is important.
Suggested exercise program: Squeeze muscles for 5 seconds, relax for 5 seconds — 10 repetitions. Doing 3 sets per day can be beneficial. As you get stronger, you can increase the squeeze time to 10 seconds. Quick squeeze-release (flutter) exercises can also be added. They can be done in any position — sitting, standing, or lying down.
Benefits: The strongest evidence is that they help prevent or reduce urinary leakage during pregnancy and after birth; they may also contribute to postpartum recovery. Pelvic floor health is also very valuable for mothers planning a C-section. Adding this small exercise to your routine is a wonderful gift to yourself.
