Breathing and Relaxation Exercises During Pregnancy
Birth preparation, stress management, and Lamaze techniques.

Proper breathing techniques are one of your most powerful tools for relaxing throughout pregnancy and managing pain during birth. Regular breathing practice can reduce stress hormones and help calm you.
Diaphragmatic breathing (belly breathing): Sit or lie on your side comfortably. Place your hand on your belly. Inhale through your nose for 4 seconds, expanding your belly. Exhale slowly through your mouth for 6 seconds. Doing this practice for 5-10 minutes daily can support reducing anxiety and improving sleep quality.
Lamaze breathing techniques: Take a deep cleansing breath at the start of a contraction. During the contraction, breathe in a shallow, rhythmic pattern (hee-hee-hee-hoo). Take a deep relaxing breath as the contraction ends. This technique can make birth more manageable by shifting focus from pain to breathing.
For daily relaxation, progressive muscle relaxation (starting from toes, squeeze each muscle group for 5 seconds, relax for 10 seconds), visualization (imagine the moment you hold your baby), and vocal work (low-toned "aaa" or "ooo" sounds — relaxes the jaw and pelvic floor during birth) can be very beneficial.
