Watch Out for Anemia During Pregnancy
Iron deficiency anemia symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment approaches.

During pregnancy, blood volume increases but red blood cell production may not increase at the same rate — this is called physiological anemia. Iron deficiency anemia requires a bit more attention and can occur in a significant proportion of pregnant women.
Symptoms may include extreme fatigue, pallor (especially the nail bed and inner surface of eyelids), shortness of breath, dizziness, palpitations, and cold hands and feet. These symptoms can be confused with normal pregnancy fatigue — that's why regular blood tests are so important.
Taking iron medication on an empty stomach and with vitamin C (like orange juice) increases absorption. Since tea, coffee, and dairy products can reduce iron absorption, keeping them 2 hours away from iron medication is recommended.
Iron supplements can cause constipation and nausea — different forms (iron bisglycinate, liquid iron) may reduce these side effects. Finding the most suitable form together with your doctor makes a lot of sense. Regular blood test monitoring is the most valuable tool in anemia management.
