Leg Cramps and Restless Legs During Pregnancy
Night cramp causes, prevention, and instant relief methods.

Leg cramps occur in a significant proportion of pregnant women, especially in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters. They usually appear at night in the calf muscles. You are not alone in this — and there are several effective methods for relief.
During a cramp: Straightening your leg and pulling your toes toward you works well. Gently massaging the calf muscle and applying a warm compress can be relieving. Getting up from bed and walking a few steps can also release the spasm.
For prevention: Paying attention to magnesium (almonds, bananas, dark green vegetables) and calcium intake can be beneficial. Magnesium supplements with doctor's approval may help reduce cramp frequency. Doing calf stretching exercises before bed and drinking plenty of water can also have a preventive effect.
Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS): It can present as tingling, burning, or an urge to move the legs. Since it may be associated with iron deficiency, getting ferritin levels checked is a good step. Avoiding caffeine and sugar, regular exercise, and leg massage can help alleviate symptoms.
